Gold for up-and-coming HABAU talents at the AustrianSkills 2023

Lower Austria native Lukas Miedler and Upper Austrian Lukas Ritzberger impressed the jury at this year’s AustrianSkills 2023, taking first place in the category of “concrete construction”. The next stop for the two gold medal winners is the EuroSkills 2025 in Herning, Denmark.

Once again this year, young specialists had the chance to put their skills on show at the Austrian national championships for trades in 29 occupations, going head-to-head against their colleagues in a three-day competition. From 23 to 25 November, the competitions for the building industry were held in Salzburg, including electrical systems, concrete construction, structural engineering and carpentry. Besides the two HABAU concrete construction champions, HABAU apprentices Andreas Mühllehner and Andreas Scheiflinger also did a superb job in the area of “structural engineering” and demonstrated their immense ability.

The two frontrunners Lukas Miedler (Horn) and Lukas Ritzberger (Enns) acquired their expertise and competence in concrete construction during their apprenticeship at HABAU. Now, the aspiring building professionals were able to successfully demonstrate the profound knowledge and practical implementation of their skills at the AustrianSkills.

“It was a huge challenge, because the pressure of competition and the rivalry were strong, and precise timing was required. We prepared intensively and, during training with our instructors, developed a plan for how to make the most efficient use of our time. Without their dedication and support, we wouldn’t have been so successful”, explain the two first-place finishers. With this victory, the duo secured their spot at the European championships EuroSkills, where they will face off against the international competition from 9 to 13 September 2025 in Denmark.

“The fantastic performance displayed by the HABAU team at the AustrianSkills deserves the highest recognition – my sincere congratulations to the winners”, says Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of the HABAU GROUP. “Our young talents are the next generation of the construction industry and it’s important to us to identify and encourage the individual strengths of each apprentice. This success once again highlights the quality of our training and makes it clear that investing in our team means investing in the future.”
