At this year’s Austrian national championships for professional trades – the AustrianSkills – the two natives of Upper Austria, David Friedl and Lukas Ritzberger, won over the jury and took home second place in the category “concrete construction” for HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H. In doing so, the team secured its ticket to the 2023 EuroSkills in St. Petersburg.
While the majority of the AustrianSkills national championships were postponed until January 2022 due to COVID, the candidates in the concrete construction category were nonetheless allowed to compete for the podium from 23.11. to 25.11.2021 under strict COVID measures, on a small scale without an audience in Guntramsdorf, Lower Austria.
HABAU GROUP: The future generation of the construction industry
Both David Friedl and Lukas Ritzberger successfully completed their apprenticeship in concrete construction at HABAU while simultaneously passing their masonry and formwork training with outstanding success. Now, the emerging construction talents seized the chance to showcase this knowledge and their ability to implement it at the AustrianSkills.
“At the AustrianSkills, we wanted to measure ourselves against other companies in the competition and prove to ourselves what is truly possible. During the two weeks of training at the construction academy in Guntramsdorf, we went through the competition situation countless times in order to fully prepare ourselves”, the two HABAU candidates explained. By winning second place, the duo qualified for the EuroSkills European championships and will square off against the international competition from 16.08. to 20.08.2023 in St. Petersburg.
“The HABAU team accomplished a remarkable achievement at the AustrianSkills – and I’d like to offer the two my heartfelt congratulations”, HABAU GROUP CEO Hubert Wetschnig enthused. “Our young talents are of particular importance to us – they are the future generation of the construction industry and we are passionate about passing on our experience. Now it’s time to cross our fingers again and wish them all the best for the European championships in St. Petersburg!”
