Two new educational facilities to accommodate a total of approx. 2,300 children are scheduled to open in Atzgersdorf and Deutschordenstrasse in Vienna in the autumn of 2022. The plans are being delivered within the context of PPP (public-private-partnership) projects; the contractual partners of the City of Vienna are Siemens Gebäudemanagement & -Services G.m.b.H. (SGS), RBI Leasing GmbH and HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H. The two HABAU GROUP companies HABAU and ÖSTU-STETTIN have been tasked with the construction work. The former being responsible for building the campus in Atzgersdorf, the latter for the site in Deutschordenstrasse. SGS will be taking on the technical fittings for both buildings as well as the facility management for the sites for a period of 25 years following the handover; RBI Leasing will coordinate and handle the financing. Not long ago, both projects achieved their first major milestones with the completion of both building’s structures.
Topping out ceremonies
“We are very pleased with this great success and would like to take the topping out ceremony as an opportunity to thank all those involved in the project, in particular our partners RBI Leasing and Siemens, as well as our client, the City of Vienna,” says Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of the HABAU GROUP.
“As the lead contractor on these two projects, we as a company are delighted with the progress of the build thus far and would like to congratulate all those involved on their achievements to date and thank them for their excellent cooperation. We are delighted to be able to play our part in expanding the educational opportunities the City of Vienna has to offer,” says Timo Seyfried, CEO of Siemens Gebäudemanagement & -Services G.m.b.H. (SGS).
Alexander Schmidecker, CEO of Raiffeisen-Leasing, emphasises: “We are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to realise an important public-private-partnership project together with the City of Vienna and our project partners Siemens and HABAU. In addition to taking care of the financing, we also act as a central go-between for project implementation matters.”
Two topping out ceremonies were held to appropriately mark the two projects’ first major construction milestones: The first celebration took place at the Deutschordenstrasse campus on 31 August 2021, with the second held on 8 September 2021 at the Atzgersdorf site. Current Corona restrictions meant that all guests were either vaccinated, had recently recovered from an infection or had been tested – which was diligently checked upon entry to the event.
Next steps
The next steps for both projects, following this first major milestone, are already well underway, due to the tight schedule. “We are already in full development mode. This includes installing state-of-the-art electrics, drywalling, painting, finalising the flooring as well as constructing the sports and outdoor facilities, key components of any school building, and last not but least taking care of the furnishings,” explain project managers, Klaus Zacherl (HABAU) and Andreas Hirschmann (ÖSTU-STETTIN). Both projects are to be completed in the summer of 2022, allowing the children to enjoy the new facilities from September 2022 onwards – just in time for the start of the new school year.
