HABAU GROUP celebrates topping out ceremony for The Shore project in Vienna

Ten luxury apartment communities, spanning a total of 125 flats, complete with a fitness and wellness area, concierge service, high-quality fittings and smart technology are being built in Vienna’s 19th district. HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbau GmbH was commissioned by WK Development to act as lead contractor. The project was given its special name and slogan ‘Living the Shore way of Life’ due to its unique location: right on a branch of the River Danube. To fully harness the potential of this location, there are also plans to include private bathing beaches and boat moorings. Construction work started back in November 2020 and the building is scheduled to be completed in October 2022. Erecting the structures of two of the ten apartment buildings has already gone off without a hitch, bearing testament to HABAU’s superior expertise, and ability to meet the unique requirements of this waterfront project. The first topping out ceremony was held on 9 September 2021 to mark this first construction milestone, with the first buildings scheduled for completion in the spring of 2022.

The Shore: Unique construction project in Vienna

Due to the build’s unique location, the construction project isn’t able to follow cookie-cutter procedures. This calls for HABAU’s experience, expertise and innovative spirit. “Due to the site’s location on the River Danube, one particular challenge we faced during this project was the construction of the basement, which needed to be partially inhabitable, as well as The Shore’s underground garage. In order to adhere to the correspondingly complex specifications and guidelines, we had to bring in special building materials,” says Thomas Reicher, Division Manager of HABAU Hochbau Ost. “For example, all building components below water level were constructed in accordance with the ÖBV’s (Austrian Federal Publishing House) ‘Water-impermeable structures – white tank’ guideline. In addition, we also installed a temporary flood protection system along the boundaries to lower the groundwater level around the construction site for the duration of the build. This meant, e.g., creating 15 pumping wells to pump away up to 160 litres of water a second,” elaborates Reicher.
