Vienna’s Mariahilfer Straße 10-18, which directly adjoins the MuseumsQuartier, will soon be home to the new destination “MAHÜ 10-18”. The HABAU GROUP has now been awarded the contract to build this extraordinary project by SIGNA Holding. As part of this project, the group company HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H. is responsible for the shell construction work. Construction for this ensemble of buildings in Vienna’s biggest, most vibrant shopping street was commenced on 10.01.2022.
On the premises of Mariahilfer Straße 10-18 in Vienna’s seventh district, HABAU, a company belonging to the HABAU GROUP, is implementing a visionary project that will enrich the area with this additional attraction. The new destination, “MAHÜ 10-18”, consisting of a new warehouse and a lifestyle hotel, is a large-scale project being brought to life on the site of the former Leiner building. With the reinterpretation of the classic department store, the client SIGNA Holding is making a statement in a zone of interaction, representing both new international and regional inspiration in the heart of Vienna.
“We are pleased to have once more won over our client, SIGNA Holding, with our extensive know-how and are honoured to be able to implement this fantastic project in the heart of Vienna. We’re creating the foundation for one of the most modern department stores with a rich history in an outstanding location”, HABAU GROUP CEO Hubert Wetschnig continues. The HABAU GROUP has already collaborated successfully with SIGNA Holding in the past, for example on the park apartments at the Belvedere.
Know-how and implementation competence with the HABAU GROUP
Across a total of 9 (hotel) and 10 (retail) storeys and approx. 58,000 square metres of usable space, HABAU is carrying out the shell construction including the underground parking for the prestigious project. The work includes the cut-and-cover construction for the expansion of the existing underground car park, the reinforcement of the existing facade of Mariahilfer Straße 10-12 and its integration into the newly constructed retail area.
This project presents special challenges in the form of extremely limited space with just one entry and exit, and the need to maintain the underground parking access while the shell construction work is underway. The scheduled end of the shell construction is the end of the third quarter of 2023.
