Throughout Austria, 25 April 2024 was all about girls in technical professions. Around 20 young women took up the invitation from the HABAU GROUP and visited the HABAU Group company in Vienna and Perg. A diverse programme with fascinating insights into various occupational fields awaited the potential civil engineers of the future.
The construction industry continues to be largely dominated by men. In the scope of this year’s “Vienna Daughters’ Day” and “Girls Day” in Upper Austria, which aim to bring awareness to gender equality in terms of vocational orientation, HABAU GROUP joined in by opening its doors to the generation of tomorrow. The Group company HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H. organised a varied programme for around 20 girls between the ages of 13 and 14 in Vienna and Perg.
“We are highly invested in drumming up enthusiasm for technical careers among women in particular. The Vienna Daughters’ Day or Girls Day in Upper Austria are important initiatives that support us in winning over more women in our male-dominated construction industry”, said Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of the HABAU GROUP.
Lego challenge and construction site quiz on Vienna Daughters’ Day
As part of the Vienna Daughters’ Day, the girls got the chance to get a taste of the professional world and become acquainted with careers in the construction industry. At HABAU in Vienna’s 20th district, an exciting day had been prepared for the young visitors, including fascinating talks followed by a Lego challenge. Next up was a construction site visit to the flagship of the TwentyOne commercial district – the “Central Hub”. The day ended on a high note with a group pizza lunch and construction site quiz.
Girls Day in Perg: experiencing HABAU working life up close
As part of Girls Day in Upper Austria, girls from the surrounding secondary schools paid a visit to HABAU in Perg. Following a guided tour through the prefab plant, metalworking shop and technical machinery area, the girls got the chance to craft cats out of steel. Thanks to many conversations with colleagues on site and the chance to try out their own craftsmanship, the girls were able to experience up close and personal what it means to work at HABAU. The taster day in Upper Austria also ended with a group lunch and entertaining construction site quiz, complete with goody bags and all.
